Earthquakes keep coming every few minutes in Christchurch

Another 5.1 earthquake frightened an already fragile local population in Christchurch just before 9am this morning.

There's now been well over 100 after-shocks, that are earthquakes in their own right, since the massive 7.1 quake struck early on Saturday morning.

Since the 5.1 this morning, the quakes have been unrelenting, including new quakes recorded in Lyttelton and Diamond Harbour:
  • 3pm, 3.1;
    2:49pm, 4.3;
    1:41pm, 4.1;
    10am, 3.3;
    9:39am, 4.0;
    9:37am, 3.5;
    9:01am, 4.4;
    8:15am, 3.8;
    7:49am, 5.1.
Donations to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal can be made via the Red Cross.

If you have Google Earth installed, here's a great visualization of the quakes with data from New Zealand's GNS Science and GeoNet. You can view the data by simply downloading this KMZ file and then clicking the play button in the upper-left corner.

STILL ROCKING AND ROLLING HERE IN CANTERBURY, ALTHOUGH SEEMING BETTER TONIGHT AND THIS AFTERNOON. THE AUTHORITIES ARE SAYING THAT THE ONE THIS MORNING (THE BIG ONE) WAS PROBABLY NOT REALLY ON THE SAME FAULT LINE, SO WE MAY STILL HAVE A BIG AFTERSHOCK TO COME. THE WHOLE PLACE IS PRETTY STRESSFUL AS PEOPLE ARE ANXIOUSLY TREADING THE EARTH. HOWEVER, WHEN RUAMOKO HAS FINISHED WRINGING HIS HANDS, THINGS WILL SETTLE.
CHEERS FROM SHAKING CANTERBURY.
