Buskers take over Cairns from today

Tonight's gala opening of the 2010 Cairns Buskers Festival will unleash four days of free street theatre.

Tonight's One Night Stand at Rydges Esplande has Lindsay Webb as the headline act. Lindsay holds the Guinness Book record for longest Stand Up comedy act. All buskers, local and international, will strutt their 18+ shows and perform exclusive acts no one else will see in Cairns. Some tickets still available from Stocklands Shopping Centre or at Rydges Tradewinds, at $25 or $30 on the door.

Beside the open show, everything else is free to attend.

Starting today at Stockland Centre Court is "Arizona Jones" and last years winner of the Street Star Comp, Jack S'ladder.

There's performances from Thursday to Sunday at City Place, The Esplanade, Stockland, Rusty's Market and Cape York Hotel. Here's the full programme. Cairns will have the chance to see internationally-renown performers that have flown in from all over the globe

My picks are the impeccable timing and ferocious Juggler, Mr Spin. He's an award winning juggler with mad mixture of acro-stunts and juggling.

Don't miss the Circus under the stars, on the Esplanade opposite food court. It's a great way to wind up a tropical evening, performed by local youth circus troupe, Cycas Circus.

There's also the raunchy Crack Up Comedy and Cabaret (for 18+ only) on Thursday and Friday nights at the Cape York Hotel, corner of Bunda and Spence Street.

"Grab your mates, your family and your sense of humour and get amongst the 3rd Cairns Buskers Festival - because fun is for life - not just friends," Buskers festival organiser Melinda Norris says.

And don't forget your spare change to make a donation along the way.
