10 years ago, in May 1999, the Cairns-coev community email forum for alternative thought, was born.
"It's one of the most successful community projects I have been associated with," says Geoff Holland, one of the founding members.
"The forum is far from reaching its potential, it could function as a parallel form of government - developing policy and lobbying," Geoff says. "But I suspect that this would require some funding for a paid coordinator."
Di Horsburgh, a founding co-ordinator of the forum, congratulated Geoff's contribution. "He has been a driving force, always striving to increase the membership and support so that there would be a community forum in cairns for alternative thought."
Issues discussed have been the recent Wild Rivers legislation, free-range permaculture, environmental and local politics, CO2e emissions, recycling, Indigenous food sources, frog decline reversal, and sustainable transport solutions, to name just some.
If you would like to join the Cairns-coev forum, that focuses on sustainable development issues in Cairns and the Far North, drop an email to the moderator.
