A really dirty story

You've got just over two weeks to get a few friends and family together and help clean up your backyard.

I highlighted this event recently, where thousands across Australia will clean up their community on Sunday 2 March, for Clean Up Australia day. You can register here.

Here's the list of local Clean Up sites that are already registered that you may wish to join:-

Arthur Street Bushland Manunda; Brinsmead Parkland; Buchans Beach;
Lions Park, Chinaman Creek and the Pony Club at Earlville; Fearnley Creek Drain,
Parramatta Park; Freshwater Creek; Redlynch State College and the Swallow Street Cochrane Street drains are registered.

Alternatively, you can start you own clean up site.

Cairns City Council is working in partnership with Clean Up Australia. Every year Council staff do a great job on the day droping off cold drinks to the volunteers at all the sites.

So, come on, put a couple of hours aside and make a real difference to our community.

Today I popped in to Council to collect my supply of official bags. John at Customer Service snapped my pic next to a great "Clean Up" display that staff have put together in the foyer.

There's two large Council wheelie bins rubbish mascots. There's Gazza, and I'm standing alongside Bindy. Dunno if Steve would approve.

I wonder which Council candidates will join the clean up brigade this year?

The Douglas Shire Sustainability Group has a Clean up site in Port Douglas. For further information go to:
http://events.cleanup.org.au/?Douglas+Shire+Sustainability+Group

The site includes mangrove area and it will be muddy! So if you want to help make sure you bring appropriate footwear.
