Cairns Council dismissal was "harsh, unjust, unreasonable"

In a decision in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, former Cairns Regional Council employee Peter Raymond Clarke demanded reinstatement.

Commissioner Fisher ruled that his dismissal was "harsh, unjust or unreasonable."

The Commission has ordered Council to pay Clarke any unused sick leave and a proportionate payment for long service leave, amounting to $612 in unused sick leave and $1,742 for long service leave.

Not a big financial burden on the Council, but this displays a system that is not respecting its duty towards employees when termination arises.
