Two months to place an advert

The Cairns Regional Council announced that it will advertise for a new Chief Executive Officer from this weekend.

It's two months since Noel Briggs left in shame, and yet they took this long to start the ball rolling. I know a number of Councillors have been asking the question about what was going on with this process.

“We require a resourceful leader with diverse experience and a solid understanding of local government,” Mayor Val Schier said yesterday.

“This is the primary leadership role within Council, and we want to find the best person to lead the administrative arm of this Council through what are very tough times.”

She sure does. And she needs someone loyal and respectful, unlike that last tenure that allowed a culture of deception, cover-ups and also allowed the Communications Manager to be put on paid leave for three months.

The Council statement read:
  • As the CEO, the successful applicant will work closely with Councillors and members of executive management team in the formulation of policy, corporate and strategic planning, management of Council and high quality service delivery.

Whoever takes on this role will have to take a heavy hand to Councillors Blake, Cochrane and Bonneau.

Applications for the position will close on 31 August 2009. Look out for the job pack online.
