Chatting with Rod

I've just done a stint on Radio Port Douglas. It's on 107.1 FM.

I was a guest on the "Not Rod for Mayor" show, with Douglas Shire Councillor Rod Davis.

His radio bio reads:
  • "Rod tells it like it is, in his own special way. Is he a genius... or a madman?
The truth hurts", says our resident political analyst & stirrer.
Well-known for his tendency to incite revolutions, irritate politicians, and his nasty habit of constantly fighting the power
Well, with that build-up, and guest on this show could be a bit nervous. Rod's on air Monday-Friday between 7 and 9am.

Rod Davis also has his own blog, where's he's voiced his many ideas and opinions. He is also running as a candidate for Division 10 in upcoming Cairns Regional Council election.

It will be a sought after seat but also a geographical nightmare to represent all the constituents, which include the northern beach suburbs of Cairns Clifton Beach and Palm Cove. The northern boundary extends to Cape Tribulation.

Port Douglas radio first went to air in late 1999

They proudly boast as being a truly local station — for the people and by the people – with over 20 local personalities making up the on-air presenters.

The signal can be heard from from the Rex Range lookout in the south to Cape Tribulation in the north – including Oak Beach, Mossman, Daintree, Cooya, Newell and Wonga beaches, Cow Bay.

We chatted this morning about the quick rise to notoriety of CairnsBlog and it's contribute to the political debate in Cairns over the last 7 months.

Davis is certainly an engaged chatterbox on air, and has a great local following for his engaging and fun style of questioning the norm. A read of his blog and you'll see he's a man with a lot of ideas on matters that concern the Douglas region.

I had a coffee with Rod a few days ago at the Cairns airport. I think Rod was returning from an all-expenses paid Council junket to Switzerland, but but the look of his tan, this probably isn't entirely true.

Anyway, looks like I'll do a regular weekly stint on the Not Rod for Mayor show every Friday morning. Should be fun to spread God's work to the residents of Cairns North, I mean Douglas and Mossman.
