Dinner for Kev tonight

Former Mayor Kevin Byrne's old Army mate and personal assistant, Dennis Quick, is tonight organising a thank you bash for the ousted leader.

Every guest has been asked to cough up $100 for the do, that will celebrate Kev's three terms as Mayor.

Our spies tell us that it will be a plush black tie affair, at a classy city hotel. Our spy will be attempting to smuggle in to get exclusive snaps for you.

All the staff at CairnsBlog wish Kevin the best for tonight. I know Dennis will pass our love on.

Kevin Byrne served as Mayor of Cairns for the old Cairns City Council from 1992 to 1995, and then from 2000 to 2008.

Tom Pyne, father of Cairns Regional Councillor Robert Pyne, was the Mayor of Mulgrave Shire from 1979 to 1995, then was re-elected to the first term of when the Shire amalgatmated with Cairns from 1995 to 2000.

Byrne contested the 1995 elelction, and lost to Pyne.

Anyone who is anyone in town was at the "Black tie with a hint of red" Property Spectacular on Saturday night at the Cairns Esplanade. 500 of the region's urban developers, real estaters, builders, engineers etc danced the night away. Some of them had to say no to Quickie's invite. Would be interested to know how many the former mayor could muster!!

A gliztsy property spectacular, it may have been, but when developers are advertising and giving freebies away with their newly constructed, now for lease properties (units), one has to wonder what is truly going on?
In last Saturday's Cairns Post, Paradise Palms are advertising for free 81cm plasma televisions if you sign on for a 12 month lease at their Keys apartments, but apparently its a very limited offer, so best get in quick for this one.

Was Kevin able to beat the trickeries of the automatic boom gate in the parking lot this time?
