The real story at False Cape yesterday

Local photographer Steven Nowakowski captured these astonishing images yesterday morning.

They vividly depict the devastation of the land left abandoned by the Reef Cove Resort developers, some five months ago.

The "professional" officers of CRC, Queensland government, and Commonwealth government will probably rspond to these photos in the same manner they've been dealing with False cape for nearly three years now.

"It's not as bad as it looks, and we're negotiating with the owners - who will no doubt come to the party and act responsibly" any decade now.

Steven Nowakowski, Mark Buttrose, Terry Spackman and Steve Ryan have been putting their time, energy and money into exposing false cape for years now and deserve to be congratulated and supported by all cairns residents for the passion and courage they bring to environmental advocacy.

Next Thursday Val Schier, Cairns First, and the whole CRC will have the opportunity to enforce development conditions and site remediation at False Cape - and to signal all developers that our natural heritage will be protected to the best of their ability.

Let's hope they rise to the occasion. I'll be there to watch and listen.

Lets not forget everyone that this terrible act of enviromental destruction was sanctioned by all powers including local council, State Government agencies and the then Federal Minister of the Environment, Minister Ian Campbell.
No one now wants to take responsibility for this environmental disaster, let alone the neglient death of an employee last year.
This fiasco needs to be brought to the wider Australian audience as an example of how at all levels of governement, our leaders have consistently failed to protect our natural and very unique enviroment here in North Queensland which is being turned over to developers through the rampant overriding of our town planning scheme and wavering of state government protectionist polices for what? - for the sake of another bloody 5 star resort.

Good onya CAFNEC and others who continue this battle in the name of public accountability. No doubt the job you were doing yesterday, is what our Council should be doing and again, consistently fail in their duty of care.

Yes anonymous above,we all hope Val and the Council do the right thing, however with Crs Blake,
Gregory,Bonneau and the Deputy Mayor forming a sort of inner team, methinks it will be a difficult job to make any satisfactory decisions.fupvozit
