Giving up on this give way

I had a number of calls and emails since this appeared in Wednesday's Cairns Post, from none other than the Queensland Government. It was a full-page advertisement called "How street smart are you?"

Take a close look and see if you can make head or tail out of the "rule" for this Give Way. Firstly, why you would have a Give Way in that spot, is beyond any reasonable observation.

As one Post reader said "if you think the bureaucrats and their minister are crazy, who in their right mind would put a give way in that situation? Only a bureaucrat or a politician!"

They say is answer 'B'. Vehicles travel in this order first: C, A, B, and D.

Go to the corner of Arlington Esp & Upolu Esp Clifton Beach.
The request was for a stop sign for vehicles B & D.
It was given a Give Way sign(???), exactly like the 'hereforlife' image. Except it is up behind a tree, so vehicles B & D won't see it(???).

In that image I would say vehicle A was in for a nasty accident with vehicle C suddenly appearing from the left.

The corner of Mann and Lyons st in Westcourt is posted in this way as is the corner of Gavin and Ann St in Smithfield. Don't know of any others. Nice to know that QLD Transport is concerned about the 'major' traffic problems in cairns...

The driver of car C has his bowls club hat on the back seat window so he will pull out oblivious to anyone else anyway. Therefore car A is stuffed. Car B looks like a Ford, so it has probably broken down, giving the driver of car C...no, I mean car D the irrits. So I reckon the winner will be the tow truck driver.

I haven't been to Port Douglas for a while, but the turn off into Macrossan St was like this... Sorry but I think this is actually a basic give way - always give way to the right except when crossing the line of traffic... Driving around anywhere it's obvious a lot of people lack an understanding of the basic road rules. And just because you have right of way doesn't mean you'll get it! Be prepared to give way to anyone.

There are two I use exactly like this every day! The corner of Arnold and Magazine Streets Strateford at the corner of the soccer grounds. And the corner of Old Smithfield Road and Lee St Freshwater. And we all do it perfectly well with no accidents that I'm aware of. I agree with you Dale - always expect NOT to to be given right of way; and give everyone plenty of space to make their mistakes around you :)
