Crime Stoppers update

In partnership with the Cairns District Crime Prevention office, CairnsBlog brings you Crime Stoppers update.

Men arrested after street disturbance, Cairns CBD:
Two local men were charged after an inner city disturbance early on Friday morning.  At about 5.15am police were patrolling Shields Street when they allegedly observed one of the men kicking a shopping trolley and swearing at people nearby.  On attempting to arrest the person another man allegedly attempted to prevent the arrest and grappled with police. A 29-year-old Redlynch man was charged with committing a public nuisance and a 33-year-old Bungalow man was charged with assaulting and obstructing police.  They are both due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 1.
 
Man charged over harassing phone calls, Cairns:  
A 46-year-old North Cairns man has been charged with using a telecommunication device to threaten or harass after allegedly sending a series of threatening messages on Friday.  The man is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 2.
 
Car incident, Port Douglas:
A Port Douglas man watched on as his vehicle fell victim to the incoming tide on Four Mile Beach at Port Douglas on Saturday. The man’s 4WD vehicle became bogged in soft sand and was unable to be moved before the tide partially submerged the vehicle. It was later retrieved by a second 4WD vehicle. The driver was not injured as a result of the incident.
 
Drink driving charges, Smithfield:
A 29-year-old Manoora man has been charged with drink driving after it’s alleged he was hooning near police patrolling in Smithfield on Saturday morning. Police intercepted the driver who allegedly returned a breath alcohol concentration of .113%. He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 1.
 
Break and enter, North Cairns:
 Police are investigating a break and enter offence that occurred at a Lily Street residential unit early on Saturday morning.  The offender entered the unit via a closed but unlocked door around 5.15am. The resident woke and challenged the offender however he was able to flee with a sum of money from the unit. The offender is described as being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander man, approximately 170cm tall.
 
Theft, Smithfield:
Smithfield Police are investigating the theft of a ride-on lawn mower from a Faculty Close student lodge. The mower is alleged to have been stolen some time overnight last Thursday, November 12, after thieves forced entry to a shed at the complex.  The mower is described as a being an orange Husqvarna LTH1797 mower.
 
Wilful damage, Cairns City:
Police are investigating a wilful damage offence that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when a female kicked out the window of a taxi cab on Sheridan Street.  The female taxi driver had collected a man and woman from a city address and while travelling along Sheridan Street they allegedly began to argue. The driver stopped the cab and the woman then allegedly kicked the rear window from the inside causing it the shatter. The couple then walked off, failing to pay the fare.
 
Break and enter of motor vehicle, Smithfield:  
Police are investigating the theft of cash from a motor vehicle which was parked in an Atlas Close driveway overnight on Friday.  Thieves entered the unlocked vehicle and removed cash from a wallet which was inside.  Police are urging car owners to remove valuables from their vehicles and secure them whilst they are unattended.
 
Wilful damage to motor vehicle, Cairns City:  
Police are investigating an act of vandalism that occurred in an Esplanade car park on Sunday afternoon.  A Trinity Beach man parked his vehicle in the car park area around 3pm and went to a nearby restaurant.  At about 5.30pm a bubbling substance was located on the rear of the vehicle, causing paint and trim damage.

Crime Stoppers Update... back bigger and badder.

This dramatic increase in crime is making me feel insecure and vunerable whilst walking the streets of Cairns.

These people should all be locked up. Zero tolerance on nusiance crime I say. It is only a matter of time before these criminals paint the town red with blood of innocents and the occasional goat.
