Two bucks for a bottle of vino. I'm in

Just in time for the festive boozy season, when everyone looks better after one too many, an offer comes along that you can't refuse.

Because of a "grape glut", which is closely related to a beer gut, you can buy a bottle of wine at $1.99, which is officially cheaper than shop purchased water.

The Woolworths liquor chain, Dan Murphy's is selling 82,000 750ml clean skins at just $1.99 each.

According to New South Wales winemakers in Riverina, one of the largest wine producing areas in Australia, Murphy's bought the wine for around 45c a litre.

In the last three months, 1.8 million bottles of white wine was purchased, and 250,000 bottles of red.

The cheap Murphy's are chardonnays and Cabernet merlots, which lost market share to New Zealand Cabernet sauvignon and Australian shiraz.

Cheers.
