Why are we waiting

This is the third time I've blogged on this matter since first raising it on the 1st February.

I highlighted the fact previously that I would keep a monitor out for the Mayor and his Deputy to see when they list their Register of Interests on the Council website.

So ten days on, the Mayor's and his Deputy's declaration of interests is still not on the website.

CairnsBlog will be mounting a campaign for these two very senior local politicians to declare their interests to the voting public prior to this election. You deserve it.

The only other Councillor to not declare their interests and any gifts over $500 is Margaret Cochrane. Margaret telephoned me last week, before heading away from Cairns for a few days. Said she didn't believe she had any to declare, but assured me she would talk to Council's IT department to update her Council website page.

They won't declare their interests because they are hiding something. It is that simple.

Byrne is still reading the fine print in the kick backs section of the "agreement" with the developers

If one establishes an offshore nest egg in say China, what are the chances of being ever found out?
So when the time comes the Royal Commission should be looking at those who support our politicians and investigate any funds that have been sent offshore, and follow the paper trail.

I'm not sure you have all your detail straight in these posts on the register of interests as detailed in sections 247,248 & 249 of the LGA http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/L/LocGovA93.pdf.

Councillors deserve no kudos from you for displaying the information you refer to as it is an obligatory requirement of s248(5A)(5B)of the LGA for this information to be displayed in the website.

The question that should be asked is why Kevin Byrne and Terry James would appear to be in breach of the LGA with regards to their responsibilities as councillors? Maintenance of the register is the responsibility of the Council CEO so maybe Noel Briggs should be asked whats going on?

Also the information provided on the website under 248 (5A)(5B) is not necessarily the complete register of interests for a councillor which can be accessed by application in writing to the CEO.
