The Reform commission, cited to be independant of State Goverment, offered to allow the new combined Couccils to change their name, other than the one proposed by the Reform paper.
This blog recomends, not the Cairns Regional Council, but the Cairns and Douglas Regional Council.
How dare we assume that the unique Douglas SHire name and all it represents and stands for, has no place in our local administration!

Someone agreed with you on the radio this morning about the name of the new Council being problematic; said it could perhaps be called Coral Coast Council.
And someone else wrote to the Post and said it could be Trinity Bay Regional Council. I wouldn't feel to great about the proposed Cairns name if I lived 2 hours away in Cape Trib.
