At 4:05am this morning it became Law: We are one

Overnight, the State Government agreed from March 2008, 80 Queensland councils will vanish from our 2,734 km coastline.

At least 22 Councils are rather pissed off that they are being forced to amalgamate.

The new laws were passed by Queensland Parliament in the wee hours of the morning, as most of you slept in you tiny Cairns air-conditioned concrete apartment, with a tiny balcony, if you are lucky.

The Local Government Reform Implementation Bill 2007, was passed just after 4 am today. After 14 hours of debate, this was the the longest one-day sitting in Parliament since 1985!
