The reason behind protesting against USS Blue Ridge

Here's Bryan Law's protest action against the visit to Cairns by the communications vessel, the USS Blue Ridge.

This is no holiday cruise ship. This enormous ship is part of the first strike nuclear weapon capability. It's mission is to directly support the war effort in Afghanistan and Iraq, and when it leaves our tropical port in a few days, will be heading back to carry on it's duties as a war machine.

It is on this basis that local peace activists oppose it's visit and supporting economic investment from the US war machine.

Cairns Peace by Peace intend to hold a series of actions over the next few days.

Both WIN TV and 7 News will cover this story this evening, complete with CairnsBlog video coverage. You can see the full story here...

I'm disappointed so much space on this normally useful blog is being given over to this nutter, Bryan Law.

He should have his own blog so it can be roundly ignored.

Important REAL community issues are left undiscussed while this idiot screams for headlines.

It's the squeaky wheel mentality.

Ironically he has condemned the Labor and Greens Parties respectively over Cape York issues, vowing instead to support the Neo-Con leanings of the Liberal and National Parties- proud supporters of such things as the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as of course former President George Bush.

Doesn't say very much for the Christian faith does it? Jesus is probably turning in his tomb.

We Christians tend to think of Jesus as not being in the tomb.

Missing the point there might make you also vulnerable to misinterpreting Bryan's actions.

Now be the change said...

Thank you Bryan for bringing your courage to stand up against the war machine.

You are correct Love, Jesus sits on the right side of God. Bryan Law has courage, conviction and a passion that would be a credit to anyone who is a believer in something. One doesn’t have to agree with him, but thousands of Anzac’s fought for his right to be free and show his opinion. Onya Bryan.

Well said Rob Williams. We don't have to agree with Bryan, but we respect the right of people to stand up for what they believe in. Some notable Cairns identities who have done that over the years have been Brian Strike in his famous swim across the Daintree River; Liz Plummer for standing up for cancer patients and more recently Dr Carole Ford for raising awareness of Queensland's 1899 anti-abortion legislation.

Hey did you ever.think the Blue Ridge was haunted?

I was on Blue Ridge from 2000-2004 and I had just remembered about the stories from various sailors of hearing voices at night in aft lookout or seeing weird things roaming the p-ways at night while underway. Just wanted to know if others stationed on there ever heard/seen similar things.
