CairnsBlog is a Twitterer.
You can see my regular live Tweets in the right-hand sidebar.
Cairns Regional Councilors Kirsten Lesina and Rob Pyne are on Twitter. Di Forsyth has just joined up, and needs some friends. Deputy Mayor Margaret Cochrane doesn't want to.
However, if you're using Twitter, the web versions of the txt short message service, Aussies will soon be able to make two minute phone calls, at no cost.
A trial in the US is now underway and Australian Twitters will get to use the service soon. Internet telephony company Jajah is behind the new service. You will have to register your mobile number that will then allow free calls to your "followers."
However, you won't be able to swap recipes, talk about your favourite girly pic in the Cairns Post, or discuss the wonderful Valcano, as two minutes calls is all you'll get.
"If you tweet your family or friends, when you've got something really quick to say and you make a quick two-minute free call," Jajah's marketing chief Paul Naphtali says.
To make a call, simply send a tweet with “@call @twittername” (replace "twittername" with the person to call.) Your phone will then ring and the call will be connected. Contact details are kept private, so you can use JAJAH@call without giving your phone number away. Both you and the person you wish to call must be JAJAH members.
