No more car washing for Freebody

Councillor Freebody, who owns the Reservoir Road car wash business Car Wash Cafe, is rumoured to have sold the soap suds business.
The Car Wash was ransacked just weeks ago, when the not bolted down safe was stolen.
In an unofficial and highly suspect statement, Cr Freebody said: "It's all because I need more time to write letters to the Editor at The Cairns Post.
"I need to defend our Council's reputation, and it's almost a full time job. This is the best way that I can do it.
"Also, that Richie Bates needs putting in place, I mean those mad cyclists get all flustered... their blood runs to their head with those tight lycra shorts and shaving their legs. What's that all about? Hardly sensible behaviour for a grown man."
Paul could not be reached today for further comment.

Thats right Free-for-all freebody. It is a full time job to protect this councils reputation. Thats because time and time again the Unity team members especially such as yourself have shown complete disregard for cairns residents id they dare to speak out against your development mad ideas. I see now council may go to court over the 3 queenslanders standing in the way of Mcdonalds on Martyn St. Trying to give yourself a good name by standing up for old Queenslanders and the Cairns PLan all of a sudden. How come you never go to court when its developers you are up against, such as Buchans Point and Yorkeys? You yourself have gone on record many times saying, 'We can't stop this development for fear they will sue the council'. Is it because these developers are lining Unity team pockets? Or if not, because KB and the Unity team just love developments, and don't really want them stopped. If you were serious about stopping them you would be leading the charge, like Kieth Goodwin used to when Trinity point was the big issue back in the late 80's early 90's. You better start looking for another business to buy because you won't have a job in council come March.

“I need to defend our Council's reputation, and it's almost a full time job. This is the best way that I can do it”

I say that if Councillor Free-For-All and his cronies had not passed so many inappropriate developments and given so many favours in the way of dispensations to their developer friends, then this Councillor would not have to be spending all his time defending Council. Its hardly rocket science!

The future of about 200 wallabies along the Captain Cook Highway near the bowling club at Trinity Beach is the next environmental disaster about to unfold. All because CCC does and did not respect the value of wild life and wild life corridors when they have approved all these very large developments that has taken every inch of their habitats and water sources. Now, the wallabies are locked out and surviving in very small paddocks adjacent to the highway. Actions always speak louder than words, so I suggest Councillor Freebody gets those Council green star environmental credentials he so likes to boast about, and get some green star action happening fast!

I agree with Fiscal Fred. We need to get rid of Peabody and have a local representing Division 4. We also need someone who is enthusiastic and will work to get things done, rather than spending all of their time writing letters to the editor to defend the outrageous behaviour of the current council. Kirsten Lesina has my vote!

According to the Cairns Post yesterday Cairns City Council is chopping down large melaleuca trees and lining a creek with cement to protect a block of units backing onto the creek.

Firstly, CCC by its very actions is not valuing this very important ecological system with fish, turtles, and riparian corridors giving shelter and access to land dwelling animals, such as wallabies.

Secondly, CCC if they had followed their own Cairns Plan and the FNQROC guidlelines, then this block of units should NOT need protection from creek flooding as it should either not have been built in that location (full stop) or it should have been sited further enough away not to be affected by rising water. Councillor-Free-For-All probably seconded this unit development at the Council Meeting, and now the residents and the environment has to suffer for this stuff-up. Interestingly, this action was again in Division 11, where we all know by now that Councillor Bonneau is pro development. As a direct result of his attitude and Council’s determination to develop at all costs, every creek on the northern beaches has now been altered or destroyed. We saw the results of one of those actions last week when Mr Hedly, our home grown son, got done in the Planning and Environment Court for polluting the upper reaches of Deep Creek behind Paradise Palms to the tune of around $100,000.

So Mr Freebody, so tell us all once more, why you have to keep defending Council’s actions?

I would like to thank Fiscal Fred and cityviewblogger for their show of support and assure them that I will try my very best to win Division 4 and give its residents the representation they deserve.

I wonder what kind of sucker bought this money-loser from Freebody, and what they were told when they bought it. One of my neighbour kids was working there for a time and counted daily how many cars were being washed, and I know gelato stores that do more business - without hundreds of thousands invested in equipment, building, land, etc. There is no way this place will every recoup the investment. And business continues to decline as the coming economic downturn makes everyone think twice about paying $25 for a job you can do yourself at home.

Someday we'll tell you the story about how Freebody got snookered into giving away his Toyworld to Toys R Us. . . . .

The story goes that Toys 'R Us went to Freebody and lowballed him for his business. Freebody said no way. Toys R' Us then takes option on the centre where Spotlight now resides, and threatens Freebody with massive competition driving him out of business. Freebody sells for even less than the first lowball offer.

The Toys 'R Us option was completely made up by a wellknown local commercial real estate agent. Freebody lost his shirt.

But Freebody has recently dumped his car wash on inexperienced, former teachers from the now closed Wangetti college, and when they complain that the business is less than then claimed when they bought, are told by Freebody to use more Aboriginal kids to cut the payroll.

Check it out!

I agree the new operators need to be "given a go". I've however seen the contract they were required to sign, and they're OPERATORS and not OWNERS - Freebody has retained the property and the bulk of the revenues go to FREEBODY and not the operators. He can kick them out pretty much at will. Potential operators were given clearly dodgy projections, which is why all experienced business people passed on the deal and it's ended up with ex-schoolteachers. And why now they're focusing on being a restaurant (with no parking) instead of just a carwash. They know now that the carwash will never make them any money.

But Freebody gets his, every month.

If Freebody didn't want to give the operators a go, we should all be concerned about the ethics of this business charlatan.

To:Get the facts, pal. Take some of you own advice (nickname). These people ARE the owners NOT operators and are not trying to create a restuarant. What they are trying to do however is increase the experience for the customer and up the quality where freebody lacked it. These guys are doing a wonderful job. Give em a go.....

look it has always been a car wash cafe with food so what are you on about? All they have done is try and introduce new and exciting foods to tempt taste buds. Instead of boring old everyday stuff! The food is great and the work atmosphere is friendly yet professional,so please people go there and try it for yourselves before being swayed by other's views!

get the facts pal: maybe your one of the ones that were turned down and are jealous because you were unsuccesful in your bid to take over the car wash cafe! "build a bridge and get ova it mate!" dont bad mouth about something you know nothing about! freebody is out of it and these locals are trying to do the best for their customers!

Im happy to support them for just giving it ago.. you can see by the cars that are there most days it is a good business,Im guessing most of the posts are from people sitting in 30k a year desk with some much time on there hands they can put others down but writting bad comments about people they dont even know. come on cairns support these people and make them grow, after all who wants to wash there own cars anymore, only thing i would get them to change would be rain protection for when you get out of your car

thanks for letting me comment

Sounds like the news owner/operators have a computer and are using Cairns Blog as their total advertising plan.
For many of us in business we let this type of thing roll off our backs, you folks should try it!!
