Kuranda Paper reaches 200

John from Kuranda offers his congratulations to the Kuranda Media Association on the production of their 200th edition of The Kuranda Paper this week.

This community-based monthly newspaper is a tradition that goes back over 30 years. It's created by locals getting together to produce something that residents tend to keep as reference each month until the next edition arrives.

Local organisations also support the paper, from the Firies to the Kuranda video shop. It’s great keeping up with the goings on of the ladies at the QCWA, and learn about the “Confessions of a Trainee Potter” – all very Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

In the past we even had the Kuranda Police Beat report delivered as a poem and as rap.

In Issue #199, we were introduced to our new Constable, Tom Hess, who has yet to develop his own unique style of crime reporting.

There is always a Tablelands Regional Council report from Jenny Jensen, and even Barron River MP Steve Wettenhall gets an opportunity to talk about current political messages.

As CairnsBlog supports independent media, we wish all the best to Garth Owen and his volunteer team. I am sure that he would welcome any assistance to help produce the Kuranda Paper; paper folders are always welcome.

You can contact Garth on 4093 8942 or drop him an email.
