Smoking ban in Auckland

An Auckland City Councillor wants to entirely ban smoking in the central business district. Aaron Bhatnagar blogs that a City Vision councillor voted to ban smoking in parts of the city.

What about all the poisonous carbon monoxide spewing out of vehicles?

Shouldn't they be banning New Zealanders from enetering Aussie first?!

I agree with this but why not go further?

How about a ban on farting in the CBD, with remote censors on street corners and on-the-spot fines?

In Cairns, this could be a major new international tourist attraction. Many young tourists, such as most Poms, would probably be very proud of getting caught and boast about their transgressions on Facebook.

Thanks for the link!

I'm pleased that our decision to take this no further meets with international agreement :-)

As I posted on my website, the majority of councillors on the City Development committee felt this would have been a breach of civil liberties, a misapplication of council resources and misguided. 1 City Vision councillor voted in favour of a ban, 6 C&R and independents against.

FYI - the centre-left bloc on Auckland City Council is known as City Vision and Labour, the centre-right bloc is known as Citizen & Ratepayers.

The anti-smokers are guilty of flagrant scientific fraud for ignoring more than 50 studies, which show that human papillomaviruses cause over ten times more lung cancers than they pretend are caused by secondhand smoke. Passive smokers are more likely to have been exposed to this virus, so the anti-smokers' studies, because they are all based on nothing but lifestyle questionnaires, have been cynically DESIGNED to falsely blame passive smoking for all those extra lung cancers that are really caused by HPV.

The anti-smokers have committed the same type of fraud with every disease they blame on smoking and passive smoking, as well as ignoring other types of evidence that proves they are lying, such as the fact that the death rates from asthma have more than doubled since their movement began.

I agree with Syd above - also let's have a ban on Really Bad Perfumes in public - that's icky too.
Interesting comments from Carol above re HPV. I have no information about this but will have a look.
That said: we really AREN'T designed to be breathing carbon dioxide all day, but rather, we need to breathe a lot of oxygen. So, an obsessive smoking habit is not really good for anyone.
However, I remember back when I was studying naturopathy a long time ago, that tobacco was used by the American Indians to relieve asthma (in small doses) as it dilates the bronchii, & makes it easier to breathe. There was also much significance about tobacco & smoke & spirituality, which I won't go in to here.
There is also new research on the human genome which has isolated those prone to lung disease, & those whose genetic make-up just about prevents it. Could link in with the HPV theory above.
It would also be highly interesting to find out whether people smoking organic tobacco [as has been available in the US for a long time] would differ in their disease rates from those smoking pesticide-laden, & then in manufacturing, additive-laden tobacco.
That said, yes, more oxygen, & more water.
