This week's Caption Contest

Cairns Post photographer, Elenor Tedenborg captured this fantastic incongruous pic of the Mayor of Cairns in yesterday's paper.

Kev's adorned in his crisp white shirt and corporate tie, holding his sunnies and looking decidedly awkward about being within 100 meters of the aboriginal camps in Portsmith. It so deserves another airing.

But what was he thinking? Well, this is where you come in.. tell us!

  1. "I heard there was a Macca's over here somewhere?"
  2. "I only bowl over heritage buildings, but these look all so recent"
  3. "I haven't felt this uncomfortable since Yasser Arafat passed away"
  4. "If we can get Tom and Udo over here, this will be an apartment block by lunchtime."
  5. "This is a fab spot for our Chinese garden"
  6. "I'm sure Biff and Ben buried Cochrane, Blake and Sheppard out here somewhere"
  7. ...sorry, was getting carried away... your turn now!....

When I had 20 or so park people living in the park beside my house, Big Kev and his council really helped the situation by closing the park's public toilet. Of course the park people didn't cease crapping. They just crapped in the park and sometimes in our gardens. We could not get the council to reopen the toilets because they don't want the toilets to get damaged. Having Hep-C infected park people crapping in the park did not seem to be important enough to be dealt will. This is the typical quality of management that I have come to expect from Big Kev and the council of unenlightened ideas. Surely if a mayor takes something away from from the homeless that they need to maintain their human decency and does not provide a workable alternative, then he probably doesn't have any decency himself. Despite not enjoying living next to these people (was like a permanent Mexican standoff) it is beneath my standards as a human being to treat them the way the mayor treats them.

I hope he does't rip into the squatter camps as it is a direct attack on what little quality of life these people have and it causes conflict when they have to move into places where they are not welcome.

"Reckon this will gimme the Mayor's job again. (Yawn). Always works, a fair treat, stickin' it into the abos."

"Thank Christ most of Cairns voters are from the Southern States. None of the dills know anything about the abos camps and "reserves" in FNQ."

(1) "I think I've stepped in something already. Check my shoe will you?"

(2) "I hope I don't have to shake hands with anyone."

(3) Sigh. "It's a shit of a job but someone has to do it"

(4) "I hope they're friendly cause this will be home after the March election."

Under the CairnsPlan, Local Law 2659, states "no squatters allowed".
I declare this whole area to be a drainage easment and under the Special Facilities zoning, we can build, 15 X 10 storey units, 5 X 150 room resorts with 10 swimming pools each, seven casinos, 100 bottle shops, 20 commercial high rises, 30 convenience stores, 12 carwashs and 25 Korean restaurants
So whats your problem.....?"

My boys tell me there's Aborigines round here somewhere. Anyone know how to spot them?

I know how to get rid of this lot.
I will declare this area a sacred site. Perhaps Annette Sheppherd's last 7 tax returns are buried out here somewhere!!

..and behind this grassy knoll we can observe the shy and rarely talked about species urbanalia squatteralis sometimes known as parkies. They usually remain hidden under a rock and seem to only raise their heads when disturbed by a local election or other great gust of hot air.
