It's that mustache of the year again... Movember!

It's that time of the year again when us men get lazy. Lazier than usual, and abandon the razor for 30 days...

Even mayor Val Schier has joined the cause and over the last few days, done the unwomanly thing and cultivated her own lady mo... (a CairnsBlog exclusive pic.)

It's not the first time our inaugural lady mayor has sported some extra mo below the no. Digging through the CairnsBlog election archives, I came across this bewdy (see below), that shows actual evidence of Val's habitual fascination with the mo.

Each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of faces (mainly men) with the aim of raising funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression.

Men sporting Movember moustaches, known as Mo Bros, become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

The fun programme is also supported by women in the guise of 'Mo Sistas'.

You can register online. Donations are donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and BeyondBlue – the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation.

Here's a few mustache styles..
  • The handlebar. An impressive, thick mustache that curves upward at both ends. Brings to mind Sherlock Holmes novels and Elliott Gould in M*A*S*H.

  • The walrus. A shaggy ’stache that droops on both sides. David Crosby sports a walrus.

  • The Fu-Manchu. A thinner, wiser mustache with both ends reaching to the chin. Some say Confucius had a Fu-Manchu.

  • The Zapata. A large, intimidating ’stache that extends down the side of the mouth. Hulk Hogan and Ted Nugent have been seen with Zapatas.

  • The Chaplin. A small, rectangular mustache, like the ones worn by Charlie Chaplin, Oliver Hardy and, unfortunately, Hitler.

  • The Errol Flynn. A trim, pencil-thin ’stache. Vincent Price sported a Flynn, and Bob Dylan recently adopted one.

And what would have Hitler looked like without his signature mo? Just not the same.
