Outrage on SBS tonight

SBS will tonight screen Kirby Dick’s controversial documentary on anti-gay politicians who are gay themselves, as part of their "Hot Docs" series.

The doco caused controversy when it was released last year by outing a number of conservative US politicians, and thereby questioning the ethics of outing and the mainstream media’s complicity in keeping those secrets.

"We don't look into politicians who are in the closet but are not voting anti-gay," the director said.

I wonder how many closeted politicians and staff reside in our Council, State or Federal Parliament? Beside Greens Senator Bob Brown, and Climate Change Minister Penny Wong. Does it matter?

The film examines scandals around figures including US Senator Larry Craig, who was accused of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer in an airport men’s room; New Jersey Governor James McGreevy, who resigned after an extramarital affair with another man; and David Dreier, a closeted Congressman who voted against a range of gay rights measures while in office.
