Hey Circusmouse, don't knock us bogans. We keep your pubs in business, bottle'Os running 24/7, your wives and girlfriends fulfuilled whilst you are at work, you children scarred, and your animals terrified.
We went to Little Aussie Bum on Wednesday night. They have a 12 buck jug and meal deal (sorry.. sounds like a shameless advert) It's their "Bogan Bingo" night every week from 5pm.. was a hoot! They say that being a bogan is being proudly un-fashionable or rough around the edges!
ps: I'm not a bogan. nor is my mate Spanner, who needs a bit of dental work and haircut.
But do you see what is happening here? With the local media (the Post and BOTH Sea and Hot FMs) jumping on the bandwagon, "boganism" in a perverse way, IS becoming fashionable! So what then? Do the bogans become so overwhelmed by the hypocrisy of their existence and commit mass suicide? We can only hope.
Ditto Circusmouse - now we know what demographic the ComPost has been heading towards in recent years. And silly us, we just thought it was execrable journalism - it was actually a marketing ploy. And Brian, Kewarra - we also have a fair quality bogan here at The Knob too, maaaaate.
Yeh, Bogans rool, all rite! The ComPost, with its cockeyed, commercially-governed editorialising, accords maximum publicity to an event that has the effrontery to call itself the Cairns Music Festival (when it is just a collection of knob twiddlers, aka DJs), the utterly boring and predictable John Williamson and ubiquitous "tribute" bands, while 'Music From The Cape & Beyond', a genuine cultural happening, merits a paltry paragraph or two! In case bloggers are unaware, the latter event is scheduled for the Tanks tonight (Friday).
Has Quickie got a new monniker? ie. 'Sandoaipt'. Too much innovation for you, Mr. Quick. I completely endorse Tony Hillier's comments above - & very soon maybe, energy willing, we get an e-petition to the CEO of News Ltd. to get rid of Mark Alexander (Editor of Compost) & cronies. The weekly "Cairns Sun" is also News Ltd., but is not full of the crapola that the ComPost has become. This town deserves much, much more in terms of its daily media output.
