Man rescued by helicopter in Mareeba
Two motorcyclists became stuck on a trail bike track south of Quaids Road, between Mareeba and Mt Molloy yesterday afternoon. A 22-year-old man was able to walk from the trail, while a 52-year-old man who sustained a minor ankle injury was unable to leave the trail. Due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, rescue attempts were unable to be attempted last night.
The man was in contact with police throughout the night, and he was located and rescued this morning at 9am by the EMQ Cairns Rescue Helicopter. He was air lifted to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment of his ankle injury.
A 14-year-old Edmonton boy was charged following an incident at Woree in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is alleged that a 24-year-old Woree woman was walking along Mulgrave Road when she was approached by the suspect. The woman was then allegedly forced to the ground and sexually assaulted. Detectives arrested the male youth on Sunday and he was charged with rape as well as assault with intent to commit rape. He will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992

A 15-year-old Cairns boy was arrested early on Sunday morning following the theft of a motor vehicle from a residence in Slathiel Street at Brinsmead. A sedan was allegedly stolen from the residence sometime between 11pm and 3am. A Police patrol intercepted the vehicle on McManus Street and two male occupants fled on foot. The Cairns Dog Squad attended and tracked the alleged offender to an address in Ponticello Street where he was located hiding in a garden bed. The boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstructing Police and trespass. He will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

Edmonton Detectives charged two boys aged 14 and 15 following investigations into the alleged burglary of a Nicholson Close residence and the unlawful entry of a vehicle on Yangoora Street on February 16. The boys were charged with burglary, stealing from a vehicle and possession of tainted property. They will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

An 18-year-old Bungalow man was arrested on Saturday following an investigation into the theft of a phone from a Manunda residence on February 4. He was charged with stealing from a dwelling as well as fraud and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on March 7.

Detectives charged a 22-year-old English national on Saturday following an investigation into the theft of property from a Tully hostel in December 2010. It is alleged the man was staying at the hostel and stole a number of power and hand tools as well as a mattress. He was charged with entering a premises and stealing and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 23.

Police are investigating a burglary that occurred at a Gerard Street residence early this morning. Police believe entry was gained via an unlocked rear door around 5am. A handbag, purse, keys and personal cards were stolen as a result of the incident. Residents are reminded to secure their houses and all times to avoid falling victim to opportunistic offenders.
Grievous bodily harm charge, Coen
Police have charged a 17-year-old man after an incident in Coen on February 13. Around 6.10pm it is alleged the man stabbed a 40-year-old man in a residence on Reservoir Road. The 40-year-old suffered wounds to his left hand and chest and was flown to Cairns Hospital were
he underwent surgery. The 17-year-old has today been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and is due to face the Coen Magistrates Court on March 11.
