33 year old assaulted in glassing overnight

A 38-year-old Cairns man will face court on Monday after he assaulted a younger female, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The violent incident happened at a bar in Cairns around 2.30am when the man assaulted a 33 year old woman with a glass at a Wharf Street bar. She received a number of lacerations to her face and was taken to Cairns Base Hospital.

The male has been charged with assault 'occasioning bodily harm whilst armed.'

It's beyond me why drinks are still served in glass cups here in Queensland. I was in NSW recently and in a lot of pubs and clubs they give you plastic cups for everything. Even if you order a stubby, they'll pour it into a plastic cup. Pretty much stops all glassing incidents right there.

I'm sure you mean "allegedly assaulted", don't you Mike? :-)

Agreed Carl. If the logical link between glass and alcohol leading to horrific injury is strong enough to have plastic used at all major sporting & entertainment venues, then it should be a no brainer to extend this to pubs & bars EVERYWHERE.
