I recall that during 1960 the Bee Gee twins were in my class at Eagle Junction State School in Brisbane. While we were all in grade 5, Barry was in grade 8. While other generally shoeless boys played in the playground, Mrs Gibb always picked her boys up at lunchtime for Bee Gee practice. The headmaster held a poor view of this situation, predicting that such social isolation would lead them nowhere. I also recall that they lived in a dreadfully deprived outer suburb called Cribb Island at the mouth of the Brisbane River, now resumed by Brisbane's airport. Curiously none of this ever appears in biographies of the group.
