Cairns Central sucked the retail life out of the CBD and it is still recovering and now you have a CRC that wants to suck further life from it with a cultural precinct.
Unless you have good shops, hotels and people living in the CBD and visitors to support the retailers this will be another white elephant project.
It is not the trees and green spaces that will make the CBD thrive but PEOPLE. Be prepared to get rid of the grubs, the bogans and the layabouts and you might have a chance of reigniting the CBD.''

The Cairns Post has now removed the comment although they haven't removed the other one from 'Kevin Byrne of PNG' on the Duyfken. Funny thing is their comments are supposed to be moderated.

The editorial staff probably realised that even an idiot would conclude from Byrne’s comments that the destruction of City Place as a pedestrian precinct (which the Cairns Post certainly does not oppose) is but one of a number of thinly-veiled attempts to get rid of the “grubs, bogans and layabouts” from the CBD, thus destroying its colour and diversity and turning it into yet another sanitised shopping ‘experience’.
Coming from the scumbag who parks his four-wheel-drive in bus zones and disabled zones whilst buying tickets for Lotto & newspapers from the Abbott Street newsagency, I find these comments from Mr Byrne ludicrous to say the least.
Mr Byrne, your time is coming, and very soon indeed, and you also do not have enough buses to transport those people North like last time with the Origines, ...OK???
