A lappie for under $US 300

After introducing a $US 198 Linux desktop this week, Everex said it will bring Linux laptops under $300 to users next year.

It will include icons providing one-click access to Web sites like Facebook and multiple Google Web applications.

The energy-efficient $198 Linux desktop, was available in Wal-Mart stores.

It runs on a 1.5GHz Via C7-D processor and comes with 512M bytes of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, a DVD player and an Ethernet port. It does not include a monitor.

  1. err... I run linux, that's all fair and well, as it is increasingly becoming more compatible with both hardware, and users :)

But shouldn't a 'laptop' always include a monitor? Isn't that the point? to have a portable computer ready to go?

I still don't know why more people don't run linux. or at least a dual-boot machine. OPENSOURCE FTW!

  3. The $198 desktop didn't have a monitor. The $300 laptop would.

At least, that's how I read it.
