Minister of Ratepayers

New Zealand's new Minister for Local Government, the ACT party's Rodney Hide, said he doesn’t regard himself as the Minister of Local Government.

In his speech to Local Government NZ, Rodney said:
  • "I have to say, ladies and gentlemen, that I don’t regard myself the Minister of Local Government - I consider myself the Minister for Ratepayers.

    I don’t represent councils.

I represent the people whose hard work and savings pay the rates.

And provide councils with their income.

That sums up the way I approach to my job."

PURE UTTER BLISS WORDS. This attitude amongst our elected officials, whether Local Council, State or Federal, would save us so much time fighting them, & their bureaucrats. Can we clone him & implant him into Australian politics.

Um, he is a bit of a funny wee fellow who is a bit famous here for appearing on a tv show 'dancing with the stars' - he was one of the stars! As a kiwi I'd not wish his rather right-sided politics on others so we'd better keep him here. This is just one of his statements so don't be lured into a false sense of security by this man in his bright yellow jacket - please no cloning.
